The plane carried away the top of the wall with its nose. The pro- peller was smashed but neither Miss Brown nor her companion, Captain Browning, were injured. Miss, Brown, who was the first woman in Manchester to qualify as an air pilot, was flying her own ‘plane, a silver and scarlet machine given her by her father, who is a noted yachtsman and motorist. Many spectators mounted the wall and others stood below it. / She managed to land in the cen- ter of the field. There were cries { horror as the machine failed to halt and rushed toward the part of tae wall where the children were sitting. The crowd scattered in panic and several women fainted. A product of prohibition, the night club attracts the socially elite, the Peeples of the theatrical world, the night workers, the gangsters, gunmen, bootleggers, and hijackers who are creatures of the illicit trade in the forbidden po- tions. The play is at once grim and gay, comic and tragic, sophisti- cated and naive. The play is real and authentic, and no attempt is made to romanti- cize or idealize its characters. ni. ~\) After Winter’s Colds It Is Wise to Check Up on the Kidneys. ‘ATCH i after colds Wir eens slow up, waste impurities are apt to backache.
