WHEAT DOWN 4 i ; j . — market a f — 8,50; light weights 7.7: Trade in Corn Large While Business in Wheat Lacks Volume Today Chicago, March 2.—(AP) — With trade in corn large, prices for that grain averaged higher early today, whereas business in wheat lacked volume and the market tended to sag. Argentine crop advices regard- ing corn were construed as bullish, and today’s receipts here were small- er. Opening unchanged to 1-4 cent up,up, corn later showed something of an advance all around. Wheat started unchanged to 3-8 cent off, und then underwent a general set- back. Oats were easy. .Provisions likewise inclined downward, Emphasizing unfavorable corn crop reports today from Argentina, advices were at hand that European demand for corn has been steadily! growing and has averaged 7,200,000 bushels a week during the last six months. In this connection, a lead- ing. trade authority was quoted to-; day as saying that it now appears Europeans will not be able to get such large quantities of Argentine corn this season as_ previously. Meanwhile, New Orleans today cleared 57.000 bushels of export corn and Philadelphia 96,000 bush- els. Gossip today as to the corn ex- ort outlook was to the general ef- fect that signs of a renewal of for- eign demand wete being associated with gradual tightening of old crop Argentine corn offers. On the other hand, today’s sellers of corn here contended that figures on do- mestic farm reserves of corn had| heen fully discounted, and that the} hog feeding basis was at present an} unprofitable one. MILL CITY WHEAT IS NERVOUS AND ERRATIC Minneapolis, March 2.— (AP) — Wheat was nervous and erratic to- day. Recovery after an easy start on lower cables met increased sell- ‘ng at the old resistant points of 1.30 for May. On dips the market nad fair support. Corn had an easy spell in the last hour and other grains marked time. quiet. Oats started easy and turned steady to firm after 1-4 cent dip. May rye advanced to a_new high nere, a gain of 5-8 cent. May barley sagged 1 3-4 cent early and rallied om cash firmness. May flaxseed was ‘irm after an easy start. Cash wheat offerings were light and ordinary in quality. Good pro- “tein was in demand and firm, De- mand for milling types quiet. Ele- vator demand was good and bulk of the offerings was of elevator qual- ity. . Winter wheat was scarce and firm. Durum offefings were small and demand was fair to good. Corn was steady to firm with a better demand for lower grades, Oats were unchanged. Rye was in light supply and de- mand was good. Barley offerings were larger but demand was fair to good, and prices were steady, Range was 83 to 96 cents, SO. ST. PAUL LIVESTOCK South St. Paul, Mach 2—(AP)— (D. 8.
