A number of Mrs. Val Benz’s friends surprised her on her 65th birthday Monday afternoon. At 4 o’clock a lovely lunch was served by the ladies. She received some cae gifts and all had a very good ime. Forence Ardella Coffin was born March 27, 1904, at Eagle Lake, Minn., and died at Shields, N. D., Jan. 14, 1928, at the age of 23 years, 9 months 23 days. She was mai ried to Ovel Gilbert in Oct., 1922, and to this union three children were born, Betty Jane, Wilbert Hartley and Florence Opal, all of whom survive their mother. She was one of 11 children, nine girls and two boys, seven of whom survive their sister. They are Mrs. Laura Harrison, Mrs. Louis Stre ing, Mrs. Agnes’ Hill, Mrs. Pearl Duecett, Mrs. Louise Coder, Mrs. Georgia Klasshorst, Mrs. Sophia Delany, two brothers and one sis- ter having already passed away. Her father was killed a number of years ago in an auto accident. Her mother, Mrs. Packard, + of Shields, N. D., also survives. Mrs. Gilbert was taken sick sev; eral months ago und was cheerful up to the last. All that -could be done by human hands was done to make the short life as bright as possible. She was a lov- ing mother and ife and her sunny disposition won her many friends. The funeral was held at McKenzie Tuesday afternoon and was con- ducted by Rev. Brooks of that place. Interment was made in the Mc- Kenzie cemetery. The many beauti- ful floral offerings showed in what esteem she was held.
