For Monday and Tuesday the +———_————* | p. m,, State President J. D. Smith of Eltinge theatre will present dashing |Bebe Daniels in her latest feature comedy, “Swim, Girl, Swim.” Advance reports have it that this {production is the best Miss Daniels {has ever made and if facts mean anything, the report cannot be exag- |gerated. “The Campus Flirt” was a_knockout, but critics agree that “Swim, Girl, Swim” h: 5 it topped. Here are the facts. In the first place the story was writte: by Lloyd Corrigan, who knows everything about how a college story should be written with color, romance, thrills and laughs. It has a star particularly suited for just this sort of thing—fast mov- ing comedy—and the cast is hand Geeta james Hall, Gertrude Sderle—yes, the famous Trudy of English channel fame, is in the cast —Josephine Dunn, William Austin and James Mack are only a few of the names. . The story is about a girl who swims the channel and yet who is unable to swim. And that situa- tion. There are races and chases galore, just one event after another. “Swim, Girl, Swim” is the first picture Trudy has ever appeared in. Her role is a good one and she is seen as a player and also in her customary role of a swimmer. CAPITOL THEATRE The more surprises and thrills there exist in a fast-moving mys- tery melodrama, such as at,” the fewer details its impressarios can venture to give the public that has not yet seen the ean How- ever, the startling Roland West film that is coming to the Capitol theatre has new stuff in it that not 10:30 a, m. i Organ Prelude: “Moderato” Hos- See ee tbe site tence al mer the director chooses; while those who have never even seen the dra- matic production are destined to get the treat of their lives when they attend the film presentation. For the benefit of all, an inkling of the atmosphere prevailing in the Mary Roberts Rinehart and Avery Hopwood story will not be amiss. “The Bat” is frankly a myst melodrama, and frankly, it mysti- fies. You may watch it at nn point and you cannot possibly tell who is the guilty person in the great crime problem until the producer | crashes to your aid. Circumstantial evidence points firs to one person and then to another. You mistrust and doubt everyone in turn, as a clever dramatic switch points the jfinger of guilt in some other quar- Tr. Briefly stated, the plot fluctuates from a skyscraper where a big rob- jbery is committed, to a bank which jis also looted, and to a country jestate tenanted by a matter-of-fact spinster, wher all the mysterious proceedings culminate in a nerve- jracking series of startling adven- jtures. The mischief all comes direct- ily out of the evil acti of a mas- }ter criminal, “The Bi of whose identity no one has any certain idca. There are vivid “doings” around the house, and at every turn, in a mounting series of bewilderments. :The grim spinster, with her house guests and servants and detectives and a half dozen intruders, bravely sticks it out. Whenever tension comes to the snapping point there are a vod did of comedy characters who afford a welcome relief, so that ties PAGE FIVE = EVENTS OF THE WEEK AHEAD : coos 12:18 P, M, 10 Lions Club, Grand "acific Hotel ..
