Nye Favors Special Session of Congress Washington, Sept. 16.—UP)—Al- though the préponderance of the views of the Republican leaders of congress in their conference with resident Coolidge since his return to Washington is opposed to an early convening, they are unanimously of the opinion that an unusually heavy program of legislation confronts the new session. 3 | While the president had received some contrary opinion, including that of a progressive senator, Nye of North Dakota, regarding the prac- tieability of a special session, it is understood that he is inclined to re- tain his previous viewpoint that an eafly assembly is unnecessary. In the opinion of Speaker Long- worth of the house, the committees can improve the way for legislation efficacy with congress not in session. He announced that the house ways and means, appropriations and inter- state commerce commission’s com- mittees are ready to function. The joint congressional committee, created to deal with questions of ad- ministration of tax law, has been called by its chairman, Representa- tive Green, who is also head of the house ways and means committee, for an initial meeting in the middle of October. ~- 3 At The Movies \ 4 ELTINGE THEATRE John Gilbert says it with thrills in! “Twelve Miles Out.” j ~The new mystery drama now play: ing at the Eltinge opens with a gasp; | thrills and sensations cram every instant;—and still through it ail ruhs a thread of genuine artistry ture offerings of the seaso William Anthony McGuire's famous stage play was a sensation before the footlights,—but of course the stage could not turn an ocean to the task of. furnishing more thrills.
