When word was flashed from Minocqua to the doctor by his wife of the illness of the child, he dashed to the northern Wisconsin resort, and, finding the girl’s condi- tign critical, he arranged for a spe- cial train. Shortly before 11 a. m. today the train—locomotive, baggage ear and coach—sped from Minocaua. Three times engines were changed in the race. When the train arrived here today an ambulance was waiting and rushed the girl to a hospital. After another examination at the hospital, speciulists said the child had achance to recover. Farm Employe Confesses Killing Companion Alexandria, Minn., Aug. 9.—()—| Eddie Esala, 19-year-old farm hand, today confessed to County Attorney R. 8. Thornton that he stabbed Arthur Sundberg, 29, also a farm hand, to death as the latter slept in an automobile near here early Satur- day ct nton said that Esala’s signed confe: n declared that robbery was the motive and that he obtained $11 from Sundberg's pocket. »He added, however, that Sundberg Was known to have carried about $300 last week. According to the alleged confes- sion, the slaying followed a drink- ing ‘party, Esala told the county ‘orney that he and Sundberg had driven into the country and had topped at the roadside to rest when Sundberg went to sleep, The confession says that Esala had started to rifle Sundberg’s pockets and had removed some money and a knife when the sleeper hegan to stir, Fearful that Sundberg would awak the statement said, ja stabbed him in the neck with his own knife and slashed him over the head several times before fleeing. Esala was grrested as a material witness after the body was found. He maintained he had no knowledge of the crime until he broke down to- day under questioning. A charge of! first degree murder probably will be{ filed against him this week, the coun- ty attorney said. Neither Esala nor Sundberg was married.
