The period of bloom covered between the early and late blooming varieties in the ordinary season is about a month. It is the purpose of those in charge of the peony show to have tthe exhibi- tion at a time which will make it pos- sible to exhibit the largest possible number of blooms. By following these instructions the early flowers can be preserved for the show: The blooms should be cut early in the morn just as the first petals Strip off all ‘eaves, place in deep cool water at once. Cut stems on a slant with a sharp knife just before placing in water about twelve inches deep. The stems should be fourteen or fifteen inches long for the show so they must be cut about seventeen inches long. Placed tin a cool dark basement they will keep from four to six days. Never pack or put wet blooms storage as etals will be spotted. Cut off onc fair inch of stem every day if stored in basement. Blooms should never go directly from the garden to the show, but should be allowed to drink their fill of cool water in a dark basement, which will take about. two hours.
