The Armour quint kept a lend over Company all the way through the game, with the score at the half, 8 to 4, and the final, 19 to 13. The game was declared to be one of the best played-so far in the league, with iad of speed and fight on both ides. Because the Nighthawks were in. disposed, the Blackbirds took their place and played smooth and con- sistent game against the Alumni. Al- though the Blackbirds led all the way through, the Alumni came back strong in the Inst quarter and fought hard to the finish. The score at. the half was 18 to and the final 29 to 23. Crop prospects remained favorable and actual new export business turned out to be relatively small, Wheat closed weak 1% cents to 2 gents net lower, corn ¥% cent to 14) 1% cents down, oats % to *% cent off, and provisons unchanged to a setback of 15 ts. Helping to encourage buyers of wheat today was the fact that a bet- ter demand for rye was reported than has been the case at any pre- vious time for weeks past. A 3 ter export inquiry for North Amer- ican wheat was also noted in various Italy, especially, to be bidding for red w from the United States According to advices. at hand to- day, that to attain requisite quality for milling purposes Argentine wheat needs the addition of stronger grades of wheat from North America or elsewhere. In this connection, talk was current that British millers are at present paying the season's high- est prices for No. 3 white wheat from Canada. On the oth ind, Argen- tine shipments this w are much larger than last week and more than double those of a year ago. MINNEAPOLIS FUTURE: RULE SLOW AND EASY Minneapolis, March 17.—()— Wheat futures ruled slow and y up to late in the mn today, When the market failed to carry on the rally of yesterday, scattered liquida- tion developed. zt Oats were steady carly and dipped 4% cent with corn. Practically no win- ter wheat was offered. Durum was steady, Corn was in fair demand anh of- ferings were small. Oats were steady to firm, Rye was firm. Barley was firm to strong for bet- ter grade: ter grade 75 cents. Flaxseed was in fair demand. —______—__ CHICAGO LIVEST! INDUSTRIALS LEAD UPTREND Occasional Sell Squails::Have Temporary Unsettling Effect Today New York, ch 17.) speculative terest in. today’ r je al- ¢ nal sell squalls had a temporarily unsettling effect... As in most recent sessions the upward movement was led by the high priced industrials and rails popularly re- ferred to as the “blue chips” by pro- fessional traders, National Lead soared nearly i0 points to a record high for all time at 19614, following the publicati of the annual report showing §: earned on the common stock last year, us against $14.17 the year be- fore, U,. Steel common, General Motors and Dupont all reached now high ground, but American Tel- ephone sold off sharply from its early high on official denial of stock dividend rumors, | Several stocks were freely liqui- dated for individual reasons, Sugars, for example, lost ground-in sympathy with lower commodity prices. Cluett Peabody broke almost six points on the withdrawal of interests long identifed with the company and the announcement that recent changes styles of collars had hurt the busi- ite drawbacks, operations for t ise were confidently conducted in scores of other issues, but buying was concentrated largely on those with large current earnings and ex- cellent prospects. Speculation among. the lower pri issues was most ne- tive in American Chicle, Union Rag and Paper, and Foundation compan. Rails displayed a firm undertone. ~ DULUTH RANGE March 17 BISMARCK GRAIN (Purnished by Russell-Miller Co.)
