Griswold, 48, acting postmaster at Coalbank and manager of a coal mine located a few miles west of Regent, was the victim of a peculiar accident last Tuesday, caused indirectly by blast- ing in the mine. It is thought that sparks from the blast ignited a keg of powder in the mine, causing a gust of wind of hurricane propor- tions to rush out of the mouth of the cave. Griswold and his assistant, Murray Rew, who were standing 20 feet from the mouth of the cave, were knocked to the ground by the force of the draft, Griswold striking the base of his skull against a rock, He died 12 hours later without re- gaining consciousness.
