Farmer Coming to State Show to Find Seed Ole A. Sjerslee returned to his hom at Braddock today after spending a week in Bismarck, during which time e received treatment here. Mr. rslee is very much interested in the state corn show to be held early next month, and plans to.come to Bismarck on that océasion, He had about 20 acres of corn on his 334-acre farm near Bradddck this year, but the hard frost of September 24, he believes, spoiled any chance. of his obtaining sSpood seed corn from his “own crop. Consequently he expects to attend the state show to learn from exhibitors where he may secure the best seed for next year. Mr. Sjerslee is one of Emmons county’s successful farmers, but was rather unfortunate this year, as were many others, becat of the severe drought. He had “about 250 acres seeded to wheat, but only about 20 acres of ‘the crop were worth harvesting. Those 20 acres had been summer | fi lowed the ia. before and this g: the crop a better chance to withstand Pe dry spell than that onthe balance f the land. His corn developed after the rains in August much bétter than he had expected, and some very nice cars were formed which would have made excellent seed had it not been for the unusually’ eatly frost, The kernels were quite soft at that time, howeve: and the frost, which was sever enough to form’ three: quarters of an inch of ice gver water in a large tank, precluded ay possibility of using the \egorn fof phe Mr. Sjersiée says.
