Cee ; TUESDAY, MAY 11, 1926' SCHOOL BONDS WILL BE GIVEN PREFERENCE : Some ofthe Apploved Farm Loans Must Wait Until Next. Winter y With $1,300,000 in its treasury and $1,500,000 in approved farm loans and school bond purchases pending pa} ment, the state board of university | and ‘school lands has no hope of paying all of the approved farm loans until next winter, according to Carl R. Kositzky, commissioner of. state and school lands. The reason, Kositzky said, is that|- preference will be given to the bond issues which the board of university and school lands ‘has bought or in- tends to buy. Under the state law the board is permitted to invest its funds in farm loans and school bonds. The law also, specifies that, as‘ near as possible, two thirds of the money shall be in- vested in bonds and one third in real estate loans, ‘ + To Balance Funds Because of recent heavy invest: ments in farm loans, Kositzky said, the funds now are out of adjustment and preference will be given to bonds until they are balanced again as re- quired by law. As soon as the in- vestments: are adjusted the farm loans will be taken up as rapidly as money becomes available. Of invest- ments now pending payment $1,200,- 000 are in farm loans and $300,000 in school bonds. hool bond purchases recently au- thorized by the board are Norfolk School District No. 20 Benson county $ 8,000 Lucca Special School Dist. England should have a republic, it is likely that King Gorge or one of his sons would be elected. Na- tions do not change suddqly. N week may see the end of the hig strike in London. The leaders know they cannot win this time. For ‘that reason the London stock exchange and London prices are not much agitated. Rioters in England proceed cau- tiously for good reasons. British law and judges are not sentimental about killing. Murder is murder,.and murderers are hanged. It does not help a man, there, to plead that he was excited, or has a wife and children that need him. They do not send bouquets to murder- ers in jail, nor allow shyster la’ to keep any kind of a-murderer a for years, “if he has the price.” London motor busses run with barbed wire entanglements covering the hoods to protect them from rioters, that open and smash the engine. . | That is borrowing an idea from the Great American West where a cowboy, before he lies down, stretches a hair lariat around his sleeping spot. He tells' you that rattlesnake will not crawl over hair because it tickles or hurts him. The strike London proves. the wisdom of Napoleon’s statement that if he permitted freedom of the press his government qouldn’t stand.
