Louis, Sprinfield Protests against proposed freight rate increase on al s of goods from The St. sour, and Springfield, Hlinois, districts to North Dakota points have been filed with the Interstate Commerce commission by the state railroad board. The board has asked that the proposed rate boosts be suspended and that hearings on the matter be held at Bismarck. In one case the Great Northern railroad proposes to establish new rates from the St. Louis and Spring- field districts as a substitute for the Chicago rates which now are applic- able. Other points in those districts Would take the same rates. The points in North Dakota to which the new schedule would be effective are Fargo, Fairmount, Ellendale, Forbes, Frank- lin, Grand Forks.
