PAGE FIGHT THE BISMARCK TRIBUNE MAKE BID FOR ANOTHER TERM! Washington Su President | | | ' — QOOLIDGE MAY | Sure Will Try to Succeed Himself in 1928 P. STEWART | ice Writer BY CHARL NEA S$ Washington, June 5 Tyliticians profess to be wondering whether not President Coolidge will make hid for another term in the White | House. | This wondering is pure make-be lieve, so far as politicians wata « particle of sense are concerned, ‘Ihe even slightly sensible ones know perfectly well the p y to suc himseit | sees the least chance of getting «way | with it Of course there’s the two-term limit precedent. But as we all know, | that doesn’t fit Calvin Coolidge, in- | agmuch 4 into his first frac. | tion of i y way of the vice presidency | True, Theodore Roosevelt did pro- | vide something of a precedent for | presidents in Coolidge’s posit ‘t_much of It himself ever bound by it ‘ause he w. his fractiona much longer than Coolidge’s, Even so, at it was suf- he weren't en- tion so tha at he on | | | | | | rward he w ally tried t And directly aft he hadn't and verse himself. | No, no, President see any impropriety in tw ns and | ; surnes | and he's mhis that, for all practical purpos on hig first term now. fra t Without saying so in so words—at any rate not publicly permitted th inforr out through “adminis: men"—which is the way transmit to the public they, wish disseminated but pr not to articulate personally. It's doubtful if a single politician in Washington isn’t certain the pr sident would have announced it i ready, if he didn’t want anothi term.” He isn’t as uncommunicative | as all that. The -e why he are plenty of good reasons ! he does want There's no imagin- son why he shouldn't say he| n't want it, if he doesn't. On| the contrary, in the latter event, could clear the ground and improve prospects by expressing himself, The question, “Can he get another term?” is different. If he can get] the nomination, he'll take his chances with the voters. And if this were 1928 he could get the nomination. The old line Republican leaders | don't like him but the voters evi- dently do, While that lasts the old liners will have to go on mak- ine the best of him. he loses his hold on any chance, the pay- ty lenders’ will be tickled’ to death to throw him overboard. In other words, they won't let him have the 1928 nomination. He won't be like Taft, who, when he lost his grip on the voters, still held it on the party leaders. If, then, the country still seems as. ‘well disposed toward Cooldige three years hence as today, he'll have everything his own way in the 1928 convention, and assuredly he'll help himself to ‘a renomination. Maybe he'll be as popular then as he is now. Then again, maybe he won't. Three years is a long time for public sentiment to stay put in a republic like this. Something may happen. Or per- haps the people will tire of so much conservatism, without anything in particular happening. In that event| if he loses enough of his popular- ity—Coolidge will be eliminated au- tomatically. The old line Republican won't try to force him on the elec- torate. The electorate forced him on them instead, But if he lives and keeps his health and doesn’t get a leaders doesn't want it. The politicians are just pretend- ing to wonder about him—and wish- ing they had a little better reason for doing COIFFEUSE TO FILM STARS NEVER COULD ABIDE THE BOL| Hollywood; Cal., June 5.—(AP) Hattie Wilson Tobourne, negro hair- dresser for film stars, died here re- cently, bearing to the hatred tor bobbed hair that was overshad-| owed only by the love of her work.
