WEDNESDAY, JUNE 3, 1925 F Social and Personal | THE BISMARCK TRIBUNE | W. C. T. U. MEETING The Woman’s Christian Temper- ance Union met Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. F. L. Watkins. Mrs, Sara Ankenman led the devo- tionals. A brief business meeting was held and plans for entertaining the State W. C. T. U. convention were discussed. Mrs. C. C. Boise gave a report of the District conven- tion, which was held at Driscoll. The topic for discussion “World Wide Prohibition” was led by Mrs. Fred Hanson. In response to roll call glimpses of prohibition in foreign countries were given. Fifty nations are represented in the World W. C. T. U. The watchword is “For God and Home and Every Land.” Mrs. 0. S. King was author of a paper on “Prohibition in Porto Rico”. At the close of the program, Mrs. Han- son; in behalf‘ of the Union, pre- sented Mrs. G. W. Smith with a copy of the “Women Torch Bearers. Mrs./ Smith is leaving soon to spend the summer in Bellingham, Wash. Re- freshments were served by Mrs. Wat- kins and Mrs. Smith. PLAYGROUNDS There will be supervised play at the various school grounds, based on the following schedule: Monday and Thursday evenings— William Moore and Wachter schools. Tuesday and Friday evenings— Richolt and Roosevelt schools. The hours are from 7 to 9 o'clock. Games suitable for young and old will be played. IN BISMARCK AGAIN Mrs. John Whalen arrived in the city Sunday evening and will spend some time visiting here and looking after her extensive property inter- ests. Mrs. Whalen makes her home in Minneapolis with her daughter but has spent the past winter in Florida. Mrs. Whalen is an old resident of Bismarck. LUTHERAN LADIES TO MEET The Ladies Aid of the First Luth- eran church will meet in the church parlors tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, The hostesses at this meet- ing are: Mesdames J. P. Engen and c. C. Larson, A large attend- ance is desired and all members and their friends are urged to be pre- sent. M. E. LADIES AID TO MEET The Ladies of the Methodist Epis- copal Ladies Aid will meet on Thurs- day afternoon as follows: Division No. 1, Mrs. F. H. Crawford, curator and librar- ian for the State Historical society, left for Fargo today where he will deliver an address tonight at a meet- ing of the Marcellar society of the Fargo High school. Mr. Crawford) will give an address tomorrow before the Fargo Historical society. TO COLORADO SPRINGS | Miss Viola Bailey, accompanied by. her grandmother, Mrs. M. I. Mosset,: left Tuesday night for her vacation which she will spend with relatives of the E, E. Bailey family at Colcr ado Springs, Colo. AID TO MEET The Ladies Aid society of the Presbyterian church will meet at 2:30 p. m. Thursday at the church. The members are asked to bring thimbles and needles. Work will be provided. TO HAVE PICNIC St. George’s Episcopal church and Sunday school will hava a picnic at Wildwood on Thursday afternoon, Cars will leave the church at 8 o'clock. MOVE TO BOSTON Mr. and Mrs. G, E, Howard and son are leaving for Boston, Mass., to make their home. Mr. Howard, who was postoffice inspector here, has been transfered to Boston. LEFT ON VACATION Miss Pauline Fritz left this morn- ing for Wisconsin to spend the sum- mer among relatives. She will visit in Minneapolis and other points in Minnesota while gone. Miss Marcelle LaRose, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. V. J. LaRose, has re- turned home from St. Benedict’s Aca- demy, St. Joseph, Minn., where she attended school the past year. FROM REGAN Mr. and Mrs. Remple of Regan were in Bismarck yesterday on busi- ness. Mr. Remple is connected with the Regan Bank. : LEAVE ON AUTO TRIP Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Sayter, 309 Man- dan avenue, accompanied by their daughter, Miss Helen, will leave to- morrow on an auto trip to Chicago and Indiana. They expect to be gone five or six weeks. They will go by way of Aberdeen, Minneapolis and Towa and after visiting in Winemac and Knox, Ind., and Chicago, will re- turn by way of Milwaukee, Madison, Minneapolis and Fargo. PROGRESSIVE MOTHERS The Progressive Mothers club met yesterday at the home of Mrs. Lowell Taft, 1300 Avenue B. Roll call- was “Quaint Sayings of Children.” Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows: Mrs. Fred Szar- en, president; Mrs. W. J. Wilcox, vice president; Mrs. T. Thorson, se- cretary; Mrs. Harrison Brooks, trea- surer. A pot luck supper was served fol- lowing the meeting. FROM DEVILS LAKE About twenty members of the A. 0. U. W. returned Saturgay from a week's stay at Devils Lake. The early part of the week was spent with the state convention of the A. 0. U. W., which was attended by ap- proximately 400 people, and the re- mainder of the week was devoted to pleasure. The drill team from Bis- marck took third place at the con- vention. BIBLE SCHOOL STILL GROWING Eleven more youngsters were in attendance today at the Vacation Bi- ble School. Then enrollment is now 282 and 266 of that number were present today. Three new teachers have been add- ed to take care of the increased at- tendance. They'are Miss Ruth Wet- more, Miss Edna Drawle, Miss Jean Moffit. HOME FROM SCHOOL Miss Margaret Clifford and her mother, Mrs. F. H. Clifford, returned Monday night from St. Joseph, Minn., where Miss Clifford has been attend- ing the St. Benedict College. She re- ceived her Bachelor of Science degree at the graduation exercises last week. Mrs. Clifford went to St. Joseph for the commencement program. AID SOCIETY TO MEET The Trinity Lutheran Ladies Aid Society will meet tomorrow after- noon in the church parlors. Hosess- es will be: Mesdames J. A. Hyland, H. O. Saxvik and A. Risem. A hot dish lunch will be served from 4 to 7 o'clock. FORMER BISMARCK GIRL IS MOTHER Announcement is made of the birth of a daughter, Evelyn Thornton, to Mr. and Mrs. Sam Clark of Spokane, wazh., on May 26. Mrs. Clark will be remembered as Miss Susie Peterson, formerly a nurse here. JOINT BIRTHDAY PARTY Misses Ruth and Julia Wetmore celebrated their birthdays last Fri- day evening with a party for about thirty of their girl friends. The ev- ening was spent with games. An ice | cream luncheon was served. WEEK END GUEST Miss Agnes Halvorson of Minot was in the city Saturday and Sun- day and was the week end guest of Mrs. W. C. Mills. VESTRY TO MEET The Vestry of St. George’s Episco- pal church will meet in the Parish house this evening at 7:30 o'clock. All members are urged to attend as important business will be brought up. TO JOIN HUSBAND Mrs. L, R. Johnson and children left this morning for Pratt, Kan., to join Rev. Johnson who is pastor of the Baptist church there. Rev. Johnson was formerly pastor of the Baptist church here.
