The scope of a conference like the one proposed would over the entire uit because of ‘the great distanee it embraces, but this would nat be expected. The main idea would: be a closer relation between the et>' universities. named, than has existed heretofore for the purpose of u lating interest in athletics. The fact that the membership would include all the state universi- ties, the first one of its kind in the country, would create state pride At each school, the proposer argues. | Paul J. Davis, athletic director of | the North Dakota state university said today that the proposal looked |” very interesting to him and he could see Where such an organization, made up of schools of the same nature and with the same erahlem= and covering such a wide area, could be of con- siderable benefit to each other when formicd in a conference. As to the prabability of the success of the ven- cure he was skeptical. He said the maller universities would be pro- bably in favor of the plan but that he was doubtful regarding the larger institutions which are already link- ed with strong conferences and would care little about joining another. More Physical Education At Jamestown Jamestown, N. D., Feb, 21.—In- struction and activity in phybical education is very much in evidence at Jamestown college here at the opening of the second semester, four instructors now conducting classes in that department. Carl Ericson has. taken full charge of the Jimmies cage squad, and, has a few part-time assistants in the basketball coaching. Miss Vera Graham is. at the head of the women’s physical work with large classes on the gym floor and in the swimming tank. Professor T. W. Jackson is direct- ing gymnasium floor work and acro- batics for the men, and Prof. J. A. Paul has charge of swimming class- es for men. The physical training instructor stated that all this work was being given the Jimmtown students with a view to™preparing them to give in- ‘structions along these lines in. the high schools where many of them are planning to teach. One of the men students has already announced his intention of securing a position as coach upon graduation next fall. BISONS DEFEAT STATE “U” TEAM nd Forks,” N.
