The farmer ought not to object to @ request for a credit statement from his banker when negotiating a loan, This statement {s not difli cult to prepare when the farmer keeps records. The farmer who does not keep records ts not doing business in a business-like way and is not entitled to the same consid eration as the man who does. For instance, loans to farmers for the purchase of well selected high grade livestock constitute one of the most effective ways of finance ing the farmer and helping him to make a financial success of his busi- ness. In making these loans, the banker can well inquire as to whether the farmer has adequate housing facilities and plenty of the} right. Kind of feeds before the in- vestment is made. | If the banker is to encourage farmers in investments of this kind, he should have a hand in Protecting these investments, It 1s to the advan.age of the farmer as well as the banker to carry insur- ence on buildings, including fire and lightning, and if need be, tor- nado. Too much attention cannot be given to the health of animals. Neither the banker nor the farmer 4s justified in making an invest- ment in dairy cows that have not been carefully tested for tuber- cnlosis. Work It Out Together Financing the farmer should be the result of teamwork. The banker and the farmer should con- sider each other as’ confidential advisers. Flint, Los Angeles banker, told the conference of the wings Bank Division, American Rankers Asséclation, ‘held there recently, “Advertising, one of man’s mod- ern selling forces, hag found a fixed place in the banking field,” Mr. Flint said. “This, too, in the e of dire predictions, of many {old-time bankers, who once ridicul- ed the idea that advertising could | be applied to the selling of a serv- ice so Intangible as that offered by banking institutions, The time was that a bauk was satisfied with pub- Ushing its statement of condition. ‘That day hag been relegated to the paat, “There has been a gratifying re- sponse on the part of the public in this new appeal. From it has srown a better understanding by our people of banks and their func- tions. Where a bank account for- merly was the exception it is now the rule. Surely this can be attrib- | uted principally to the fact that bankers have come out of thelr shells and, through advertising, have induced people generally to come into their institutions and learn more about the beneficial services banks have to offer. This can be shown in ao better way than by the marvelous growth in savings accounts, “Astounding sums are being in- vested annually in bank and finan- cial advertising. I say ‘invested’ advisedly. It is not merely being spent; it is Invested. It is invested for various reasons, and not the least of these Is for the purpose of keeping the names of our banks be- fore the people, accompanied by & bit of bank education.” County of Burleigh and North Dakota and described lows,’ viz: half of the Southeast quar ter (Els of SEM); ter of orthea: a!
