= wy ee JANUARY 22, 1924 Ladies Night Of Lions Club Is Enjoyable The Lions club held an enjoyable open meeting last night at 'the Grand ¢ hetel, preceded by a banquet ps m., at which Lions enter- tained their ladies. Singing by the entire number of assembled guests, led by Henry Halverson, with Mrs. Arthur Bauer at the piano preceded the after-dinner speeches. Chief Justice H. A. Bronson of the su- preme court the first speaker of the evening presented to the Legions fn opportunity for thought and, ac- complishment by making it their task to see that the Missouri is again made a chief artery of navigation, which would, he said, give cheaper freight rates for Bismarck and a large part of North Dakota. There also would be offered a new outlet for the coal resources of this sec- tion, he said. L. F. Crawford, cur- ator of the State Historical society, talked on “Reminiscences of the Bad Lands,” in which he gave first-hand information of the “cow country” of North Dakota. He told stories of many’ of the interesting characters of former days in this’ region. A radio concert was made possible by B. K. Skeels, who set up two! complete receiving sets in the al- cove of the dining room. At first he switched on the receiving set con- | nected up by telephone with the re- ceiving station at his house, and then one connected up with wires on the hotel, to show the difference in static produced by electrical interference The North Dakota Independent 'Tele- | company gave a switch-board mstration, in charge of L.
