\ Social and Personal Rotarians Give Musical Program At Penitentiary Inmates at the state penitentiary Ae were entertained by a group of Ro- é tarians last evening with a program consisting of musical selections, Aeadings, and a short address by Jo- | seph M. Devine, state commission- | ers of immigration, ‘The evening’s program was opened | / with the singing of the first verse of J: America, and a very pleasant part of the evening’s entertainment consist- ed of the singing of Rotary songs “Peggy O'Neil,” “Bells of St. Mary,” “Ham and Eggs,” and “Rotary.” Mrs. Frank Barnes gave her two selec- tions in her usual pleasing manner, opening with “The Americans Come” and closing with “April Fool.” _ Miss Marian Ackerman gave a pleasing \ interpretation of “Flanders Field” and “America’s Answer to Flanders Field,” while Miss Esther Hollst charmingly interpreted “The Eman- cipution of Man.” A feature of the evéning’s enter- tainment consisted of “saw” and “mouth organ solos” by Henry J. Duemeland, president of Rotary. He interpreted “Call Me Back Pal 0’ Mine’ and “Old Black Joe” on the | saw and “The Second Hand Rose” | and “S.lver Threads Among the Gold” on the mouth organ, Mrs. Henry Dugmeland proved herself a charm- ing accompanist for the musical num- bers during the evening. Claude Peoples, inmate’ at the penitentiary, q gave two musical selections. Archie i Mecrhee and ‘Harry Bernstein de- lighted their audience with. their presentation of “Mr, Galliger and Mr. Sheehan.” Mr, Devine,the speaker of the oc- casion, spoke on ‘the, significance of 3 Armistice Day. He gave a short but a interesting presentation of the de- a velopments leading up to the celebra- : tion of the day and its present meaning to the American people. Henry Halverson was an unsual live leader during the Rotary sing- ° ing. \ During the, hour and a half in ' which the. program was given the ; ¥? audience indicated its approval of ' st the entertainment by clapping and encoring thenumbers. A group of Bismarck residents were also pres- ent at the exercises. Warden Lee and other officials ex- pressed sincere thanks for the splen- did entertainment. . ‘Completing Plans - For Legion Play Arrangements have been complet- ed by a local committee of th Legion for the production of “Oh, Oh, Cin- dy!” a musigl extravaganza of the “Follies” type, under the direction of the John B. Rogers Producing Co. at the Auditorium here sometime about Dec. 11-12th. Members of the cast and choruses will be selected from the best talent in Bismarck. The show promises to be of exceptional merit, as the talent in Bismarck is of better than the usual amateur cal’ber and the scen- ery and costumes as furni hed by! the producer are said to be the lyst word both in splendor and beauty.
