Myself and all of my family have lived in this County ever since I was born and we have always done all of our trading with the local business men of Bis- marck. My opponent, Mr. Penwarden, has for many years been occupying different offices at the Court House. I have never before asked for public office and feel now that it is only fair that you should support me for this office. I was raised oh a farm and. would be on the farm today but for the reason that I am physically unable to carry on farming. I feel that.I am a friend of both the farmer ‘and the business men and also of the men who work in the shops and in the business places as well. I am unable to go around to see the voters per- sonally and therefore take this: means of letting you: know that I am running for Register of Deeds and ask- ing for your support. Yours truly, FRED SWENSON. ' (Political Advertisement.) A Vicious Omission VOTERS’ PRACTICE SHEETS have been posted in the city of Bismarck, These sheets contains three columns; namely REPUBLICAN? DEMOCRAT = INDIVIDUAL NOMINATIONS. { In the Republican column are the names of can- didates that were high in the June primaries. In the Democratic column are (only) those names _ that opposed successful candidates that were in favor of the FARMER’S PROGRAM. The Individual column is left BLANK. I appeal to all good thinking people in Burleigh Coanty. If you were giving a pupil a PRACTICE SHEET, wouldn’t you give him the entire shest? Are the people that arranged and printed this - PRACTICE SHEET afraid of. you selecting one or more of the names that SHOULD appear in the INDIVIDUAL COLUMN? As a matter of fact the writer. only sees a few names in the REPUBLICAN COLUMN that has any right to be there. The balance are all fusionists and should be in a column by themselves. But what about INDIVIDUAL NOMINATIONS? Don’t you think thatthe voter should have'a chance to PRACTICE on him? ;He does not have to do the WILL of the other fellow, whether he thinks it is right or not, for fear of being called a TRAITOR. I quote one sentence of the PRACTICE SHEET: “The ballots that will be handed to you on election day, will a trifle larger than the fac similes printed on this sheet.” Had they said on this fac simile, they would have been liable (if they are) for misrep- resentation. I don’t know who was responsible for this sheet but will again quote from it. “Don’t forget to mark (X) after the I. V. A. candidate for official news- paper when you vote on election day.” The writer has an idea who is behind it and wants to go on record as calling him or them, Dirty Poli- ticians, Do you voters want to vote for people who will, by omission, leave something out of a measure in the Legislature that would be of benefit\to you? Look in the INDIVIDUAL NOMINATIONS column and vote for the candidates that have noth- ing to cover up, by OMMISSION. R. L. BEST (Pofitical Advertisement.) THE BISMARCK TRIBUNE la adoption. (Political Advertisement.) y mi ‘BOOST FOR - A Greater Bismarck — - "TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 7th, 1922 How can the citizens and taxpayers do something to help . themselves on election day? ¢ * The last legislature passed a bill, of vital interest and importance to the taxpayers, of Bismarck, The Nonpartisan Senate passed it promptly and Lynn J. Frazier signed the bill. It met with persistent opposition from the I. V. A. House, but was finally passed by two staunch independent republicans from the western part of the Sgate, friends of Bismarck. For the voters information we quote the main objects of the law: «“« * * ® * and the State of North Dakota is hereby authorized » to engage in the enterprise of furnishing electricity for power and lighting purposes to the inhabitants and public of the City of Bis- marck and of’the County ‘of Burleigh and to supply electricity to all-buildings owned or leased by the State of North Dakota in said City and County and to the street car line; and the industrial Commission of the state of North Dakota shall manage and operate the same. In fixing the rate for current furnished for power and lighting pur- poses to be charged to private consumers the Industrial Commis- sion shall have in view the lowest rate consistant with the furnish- ing of adequate service.” : . Why hasn’t the present Industrial Commission, consisting of Governor Nestos, Attorney General Johnson and Commissioner of Agricultural and Labor Kitchen done something toward putting this law into effect in order _ to relieve the consumers of the Hughes Electric Company from the exor- bitant rates now being charged them? It has been shown before the Rail- road Commission that the Hughes Electric Company have exacted from our citizens more than $42,000.00 in the past year in excess of what it is 1 entitled to, yet the Industrial Commission sits idly by and permits the citizens of this city to be mulcted when it has a plain and speedy remedy to correct the evil. : Why has the present I. V. A. Board of Administration had the new Memorial Building wired by the Hughes Electric Company? Why are they buying electricity from the Hughes Electric Company when they have their own plant furnishing light and power for the Capitol Building and the Street Car line? The City of Bismarck is in need of better street lighting service. Its streets at night resemble the City'of the Dead. The road to the bridge and the beautiful new bridge itself requires proper lighting. ‘The City of Bis- marck is unable at this time to pay for this service, especially at the rates now charged. It, is financially embarrassed and the City Commission has reached the maximum levy and no further service can be expected from that source. The private consumer of electricity is being penalized every day by the Hughes Electric Company through exorbitant rates and those in high. official positions wink at the situation and.permit this graft to be fostered. For what reason one can only guess. , 3 What is the remedy for the consumers and tax payers of Bismarck? There is one and it should be exerted at the polls next Tuesday, November - 7th.. Your interests are paramount ta the interests of a few politicians who appear’ to be standing in with certain public utilities in this City. Read the law on page 68 of the laws.of North Dakota for 1921, then vote for your interests and cast your ballot for William Lemke for Governor, F. H. Ulsrud for Attorney General and for Senator B. F. Baker for Com- missioner of Agriculture and Labor, men who made the fight in the legis- lature to pass this law in your interests and will no longer permit the statute to be a dead-letter on the books, but will put life into it and money in your pocket and will not longer permit the Hughes Electric Company and a clique dominated by it to work politics at your expense while you are paying the fiddler. Lest you forget Victor Anderson and L. E. Heaton who are now candidates on the Legislative ticket, voted against this bill and against your interests. It is important, therefore, for the voters of Bismarck to place in the legislature men who will fight and vote for the interest of their own City. If elected you can depend upon the honor, in- /tegrity and loyalty of General E. A. Williams, R. L. Best, citizens of Bis- marck and Mr. O. R. Vold of Regan to give the best there is in them for your interests and not to the interests of private corporations. Cast your vote for them and the law which is quoted herein will not remain still-born on the statute books. Signed, = WILLIAM LEMKE. ‘ B. F. BAKER , _F.H. ULSRUD. (Political Advertisement) ee ny
