"HAPER HOLDS FRAZIER NOT REPUBLICAN eral. Lays Down Five Points in Speech ington, N. D., Oct. 25.—George afer, candidate for attorney aneral, spoke to a large gathering 2ré-Wednesday night. Mr. Shafer's ti | ith’ state issues, he compared the | scard of inefficiency and worse of | e"Frazier administration with the ty of defeat- r, showing that he has no m on the Republicans in oth Dakota for support, and urged ie election of J, F. T. O'Connor as|- qe“ next U. S, Senator from North ’akota, On this question he said: “{eis conceded in all quarters that ‘emke should not, under any cireum- tanges, be elected Governor; but | ind=some hesitancy about Frazier’s andidacy, Here and there we find Republican who has never voted or a Democrat, and is reluctant to 0 80 now. It is said that Frazier is ot ‘naturally a bad man, that he is ore, or less harmless, that it is mlyshis recent political associatior hatis bad, and that after all, he Republican, If there are any amonz ou here tonight so minded, I want} susto give this matter your most serious and prayerful consideration yefore you decide to vote for Fra- cier.If you are thinking of ‘doing hat, I warn yqu that you are on the srink of making the most. grievous olitteal mistake of your life—one hich you will be sure to regret. Just eat-fM-mind these things: (1) Frazier was — dishonorably lischarged from the Governorship sy a majority of the electors of North Dakota for official miscon- duct. That judgment, of the people was a righteous one—one, the wis- ‘om and justice of which, later de- velopments have abundantly confirm- d (2) Remember that Frazier was ‘ways, during the five years of his | erm of office, a willing agent of Townley and Lemke, because his sympathies and thoughts always moved in the same direction as those of “his radical leaders; and that there is not an instance on rec- ord where’he ever diverted a fraction of an inch from the course which those two masters laid out for him. Never did he lead, but always did he faithfully tread the pathway of po! tical subserviency. And if you eleet him ‘to the Senate, he will ever do the same. (3) Frazier is not, never was, and never will be, at heart, at Republi- can,, He has not, in five years, espoused Republican principles, not accepted Republican leadership; ‘but always has consorted with socialists and radicals and accepted their Jeadership. In this campaign he has not uttered a word of Republican doctrine, not praised either the par- ty, or its principles. On the contrary, the has been and is a bitter and un- fait ‘critic of the Harding adminis- tration, proclaiming always that the Republican party is the corrupt tool of ‘the moneyed interests. His elec- tion would be regarded, the country over, as a rebuke to the Republican National administration, and justly BO. (4) The election of Frazier would mean the extension of the influence of radicalism into the fields“of na- tional polities, and would prolong tle regime of organized radicalism in North Dakota and in the Nation. If you want to have Townley or Lemke in the Senate of the United States then elect one of them in his own right, and not by proxy. If you want to send a radical socialist to the Senate of the United States do so under the designation of that party, and not under the label or banner of Republicanis: (5) The success of Frazier at the polts. will seriously impair the cre- dit of the state in the money markets of the East. Not long since, I spoke with a representative of a leading bond company in the East on the subject. I asked him what our credit standing was at this time; and he replied: “North Dakota’s credit is well established in the Twin Cities now, but further: east in Toledo and New York it is different, they are more skeptical of you down there, they .want to be sure that North Dakota is ‘out of the woods’ before taking her securities.’ He also sug- gested that the election of Frazier lwould seriously impede the restora- tionof our credit standing in the east, And well it might be, for it would surely indi¢ate that North Da- kota has not yet wholly returned to paths of political sanity. North Dakota has been the prodi gal son in the brotherhood of Ame lcan states. It has lately spent [substance in riotous living, impaired its character and tarnished its re- jputation. Let its réturn to the house of the father, to the safe and sure Ihaven of sound government not im- peded by the elevation of Frazier to la position of power and prestige; put let it be speededby rejecting his candidacy and choosing as our Senatorial representative, that lyoung, aggressive, fearless and abie champion of constitutional govern- iment, J. F. T. O’Connor.” Makes TYPEWRITERS Cleaning, Dyeing, Pa at new low prices, Mail orders fooked after promptly. We pay postage one way. Eagle Tailoring & Hat Works Opposite P. O.
