PAGE TWO THE BISMARCK TRIBUNE THURSDAY, MAY 18, 192% PATTI HAROLD AS “IRENE” IS REAL SUCCESS Delightful Musical Comedy Ap- pears Before Large Audi- ence at Auditorium “Irene” has come to be a’ pretty well known girl, and as impersonated by Patti Harrold at the .dnditorium lastt night she pfoved to be, alto- gether délightful’ and very accom- plished. The-lilting tunes of the well- known airs of the musical comedy surmounting a story of a modern Ci derella much more apialing tha most stories in musical comedies quite took: possession of the entire large audience. ‘A few years ago a great impressario reached out into a little city and took under his wing a man whom he de- clared was to be the great American tenor. He lived up to the expectations of the impressario. His daughter stepped into the musical comedy spot- light in New York without advance comment and immediately won a place in the hearts of jaded Broadway ® theatergoers. She wag Pati ‘Har- nold; who appeared last night with the original of the four or five “Irene” casts which have appeared in nearly every city in the country in the last year. The story of the play was that of Irene O’Dare, whose father’s employ- ment at a distillery was terminated not by prohibition but by the effects of. his ardent efforts to prove, his whiskey was the best made, And Irene went into a shop to remain un- discoveredy until she was sent to a Long Island home on a business mis- sion. Lucy’s gowns and‘ to introduce her and two companions into society to advertise them, The affair was highly satis- factory to Madame Lucy, whose busi- ness grew over night. 3 It was quite trying to Irene who must keep her mother in the dark as to her plans. It was all very. suc- cessful until after J. P. Boyden, mil- lionaire, proposed and then learned Irene a shop girl. It was-a glor- ious finish for Irene when Donald ‘Marshal asked her if she would mar- ry him and she threw herself into his arms exclaiming: “Oh My God, When.” Teddy McNamara, as the lady-like j dressmaker and a dancer if ability, Lou Ripley as Irene’s mother making what might be called rough comedy @ work of art, J. We asked for a Grand Jury because it: would be less costly to the people and because a jury of citizens. drawn from: every quarter of this county would bd fair, impartial and conscientious. We felt it our duty, not only to the state, the laws of which semed to have been grossly violated, but to the men whose names were mentioned in connection with the charges publicly made, to ask a full and fair. investigation. -“The Jury has concluded its labors.
