The fact that the men opened fire imediately after the officers spoke to them has led officers to believe that the trio had been implicated in some serious affair, and feared capture. The officers are trying to establish a con- nection betwen the attempted hold-up of the Northern Pacific train east of Bismarck Saturday night and the Tut- tle bank robbery Friday night and these men. One of the men shot at Jamestown had on him $1,800, and $400 of this.was gold. The railroad detectives in James- town went to the railroad yards to in- vestigate following a “tip” from Ciief of Police Martineson, of Bismarck. A man picked up in Bismarck, upon be- ing questioned at length by Chief Mar- tineson, admitted he was asked to help pull the robbery of some box cars at Jamestown.
