_ PAGE Two THE BISMARCK TRIBUNE URGE SUPPORT FOR MANDAN SCHOOL BAND Secretary Sullivan Says Musical Organization Invaluable to City ! Secretary Thomas H. Sullivan of the Commercial club, has announced| * that steps will be taken to raise mon- ey to support the Mandan high sdpool band. ‘Band backers have bee plan- ning to have levied the special tax of 1-20 of a mill for musical support pro- vided for in a bill passed by the sen- ate in the last legislative session, but it was found upon investigation that the measure had not passed the house. Speaking Friday night at the an- nual concert of the band, Mr. Sullivan said that he believed that the band was one of the best advertising fea- tures the city has and highly com- mended Director Joseph Bergeim and the.members for the excellent quality of the music rendered. The high school band was taken on one of the trade tours last year and made a hit at every stop. The school board has encouraged the band in every possible way. Credits are given to those taking part, One of the special numbers on the concert program was a soprano solo by Miss Audrey Miller, musical instructor of the, high schosl. She was forced to’respond to an encore. Ralph Law | scored with his cornet solo, A comic mon- ologue by Carl Burdick was a pleasing insertion. The high school quintet and glee club were given hearty applause.
