MONDAY, DECEMBER 27, 1920 BISMARCK DAILY TRIBUNE ENGAGEMENT OF MISS ATKINSON IS ANNOUNCED, The engagement of Annie Louise At-| kinson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. R. Atkinson, to Gordon Cox was. an- nounced at a ‘luncheon given at one o'clock this afternoon at the! Atkinson home, 102 Avenue} B- West. Just a few of Miss’ Atkinson’s intimate friends were) present at the prettily appointed luncheon. A red rose was at each) place with small envelopes concealing the cards of Miss Atkinson and Mr. Cox. Christmas decorations predom- inated through the home. Miss Atkinson has a host of friends in Bismarck and has been active in social and civic affairs of the young- er set in the city, attended school at Dana Hall, Wellsley, Mass., spent a year at the Susan Blow school at Bos- | ton and is\a graduate of Miss Wood’s kindergarten school, Minneapolis. Mr. Cox is the younger son of A. Beecher Cox, of Valley City. Mr. Cox graduated from the law department of the University of Michigan and is manager of the Bismarck. offices of | the North Dakota Bankers associa- | tion, and associated with the law firm of O'Hare and Cox. | FORTY CLUB DANCING PARTY ° The Christmas party of the Forty | Club, ‘the second in their series for the season, was reported as being of | unusual briliance with everyone at) high tide of Christmas good cheer. Patterson hall was made into a house party effect with an enromous Christ- masjtree in the center of the ball room, gleaming in colored lights, fes- toons, and poinsettas. While a semi informal dance pro- gram was prepared, the party was for- mal in arrangements and in full dress. The gowns of the women are said to have been unusually pretty and effec- | tive in adding’ to the color effect of the party. On the dance program’ were two favor numbers, one for the men and another for the women, by which the} guests found partners for a dance number by! the names found on the favors. The dancin program was from nine to twelve, when a midnight | dinner was served in adjonnag rooms. One large table, with small | tables grouped cozily about, and set | off with red candles and Christmas |, flowers, made a delightful dining | plan arrangement where covers were} laid for the’eighty guests, completing one of the best delightful of the sea- son’s formal affairs. Out of .town guests were Judge Woodrough and Mrs. Woodrough of Omaha, Miss Agnes Orr, home from Minneapolis for the holidays. Stu- dents home from college and attending | were, Richard Leonard home from Dartmouth, and Miss Alice Webb’ on} vacation from Wisconsin University. SOLDIER BOYS REMEMBERED Nine ex-service men in! the hos- pitals of the city were remembered | on Christmas day by the War Moth-} ers, American Legion, and the Auxil- iary. A committee composed of mem- bers of the: War Mothers and Wo- men’s Auxiliary prepared a box of of sweets, and fruit, cake for each of | the men in the hospital, while the/ men of the Legion made cheery the | day with flowers and smokes. A feature of entertainment for the ex-service men far a year or more has been a victrola, placed for the use of the ex-service men while patients | in hospital by Hoskins Company. This ; victréla, it is reported, is pushed’ about the hospital by the soldier boys to any placc where it can bring diver- sion and cheer to the men, and has been greatly apppreciated.
