COOPER ATION BEST PLAN T0 AID FARMERS Gov. Parker Discusses Market- ing Before Governors Con- ference at Harrisburg Harrisburg, Pa., Dec. 4.—The thou- sands of “little men” are the farmers | who need aid, Gov. Parker, of Louisi- ana, declared in an address today be-| fore the National Conference of Gov- ernors in session here, Many of the small farmers, he said, never have had | the opportunity’ to learn what real co-operative work means and many are not newspaper readers and have no knowledge of the improved meth- ods of handling and shipping their products. R “They are anxious;and willing to remain on the farm,’ the Loutsiana Governor said, “because it is all they | know, but if unable to make a living for themselves and their children, they will follow the’ current and drift; to the cities.” Farmers, Governor Parker asserted, have been “stuffed so full of theory, and expert book knowledge which has failed to work out practically, that! many of them are disgusted and dis- heartened.” He defined their need as “comimon-sense assistance.” Economical Methods More economital ayd improved methods ‘of marketing were urged by Governor Parker. A careful study should be made of the great markets of the country, he asserted, and a de- termined effort made to see that per-| ishables especially are promptly transported and congestion obviated as much as possible. “In the great central markets,” he said, “the government should have at least two experts who should work in co-operation with a committee from the board of trade to see that there is no loss or useless waste of perish- ables.” Governor Parker told the confer- ence that farmers could not be éx- pected to pos: s expert knowledge of business and transportation and that the government in conjunction with the states should establish a thoroughly practicable system fo sta- bi prices for agricultural prod- ucts. Holiday Glow Coming Every deater states that he *has Plans for decoration, that are to be worked out within thé coming week, that will-make the city glow insholi- day cheer of Christmas color. And, speaking of decerations, we will all be happy to learn that the precious Christmas greenery that is so ex- pensive and so perishable has at last been made lasting under the hard name of “lycopodium", which is dyed and preserved ground cedar, so this year when we buy our wreaths we can store them for another day and need not add them, as heretofore, to the bonfire ‘pile to make a_ jolly twelfth night revel. Our greenery will “keep”. Get By If You Can Who needs be told anything about candy. Tha candy windows speak el- oquently for themseives. They are lying in wait—get by who can!
