Covers were laid for sixty members and their children at the six o’clotk dinner. Following ~ this came the children’s program. An in- teresting feature of the program was the contest period when children un- der fourteen entered for singing and for recitation. In the vocal contest for girls Magdalen Clooton captured the prize. Leo Gerling won first priz2 in the boys’ recitation contest, and /Elmer Shipp second prize. Verna Shipp carried off second prize in the recitation contest-for girls. After the children had had their hour the grown ups took the floor for a dancing program which continued long enough to sitis'y the most en- thusiastic dancers. The party was voted a marked success by the guests. THURSDAY MUSICAL CLUB The Thursday Musical club met to- day in the Community room of thy city library with Mrs. E. H. L.. Ves- perman as leader. Mrs. W. L. Smith read an interesting paper on “Our Early Comnosers”: Arthur Foote, Horatio Parker, and Arthur Whiting. ~ Mrs. R. E. Morris sang a vocal num- ber from “Fairyland,” Mrs. 0. John- son rendered a piano number by Chadwick; Miss Vivien Irish and Mrs. Arthur S. Bolster sang. POLES CHECKED BY LITHUANIANS Riga, Nov. 4.—Offensive operations by irregular Polish troops commanded by General Zellgouski have been checked by the Lithuanians and as a result the evacuation of Kovno has been postponed.
