D., June 1.—Congress- man Géorge M. Young closed the first week of his speaking tour here Saturday night speaking before a targe audience in the Pierce County courthouse. In his speech Young warned the organized farmers of North Dakota to break away from their socialistic leadership that has so corrupted the e government and bitterly ar- ned the Towney controlled press for its attempts to link the farm- ers’ movement up with the various radical elements over the country. In endorsing the Minot republican ticket Mr. Young paid a fitting tribute | o the past record of John ‘Steen of Rugby, the republican candidate. for state treasurer, who was among those present at the meeting, also telling of his associations with William Lan- ger in the early days in Cass coun- t y. Saturday afternoon Congressman Young addressed an_ enthusiastic meeting at Leads following his en- gagement at Maddock on the previous avening where he spoke to a crowd of about three hundred farmers. Young’s campaign thus‘ far_ has ; demonstrated that he has a large personal following among the farm- ers of the district who undoubtedly will support him at the polls regard- less of their party affiliation. For instance at ‘Maddock a prominent leaguer, who had served in the legis- lature with Young some years ago said: “George Young was for the farmers when he was at Bi marck and I have always voted for him. He has been the right kind of a congress- man and I will vote for him again,” In fact aH along the line there is evidence of a falling away from the Townley dictatorship and a general sentiment of dissatisfaction over the personal of the league ticket. This seems to be due partly to the follow- ing of Senator Asle J. Gronna in this section and partly to the wirl- wind drive recently made in Benson and Pierce counties by William Lan- ger. This was the view expressed by a number of men who were at the Leeds meeting such as E. J. Duncan, a prominent. and successful young farmer of Josephine; L. L. Butter- wick, secretary of the National Farm Loan association of Benson county; Michaels, an eight-year old veteran of the Ciyil war and a pioneer farmer; George Dickinson of Brins- made, and Victor Wardrobe of Leeds, formerly member of the legislature. In fact-there is great promise now until recently in the Nonpartisan column, will return a § antial majority in favor of the -Townley ticket in June. & READY FOR BOOSTER TOUR (Continued irom page one) low; Rosen’s Clothing Shop, Al Rosen; S.
