MEMBERS First National Bank City National Bank First Guaranty Bank BY BLOSSER Rushed by Payers . of Overdue Taxes \ With Completion of Harvest Sea- gon, Farmers Are Meeting Their Assessments Payment on delinquent taxes is very heavy at the present time and the of- fice of Richard Penwarden, county treasurer, has béen kept very busy the past week in receiving money from farmers living in the county. Most of the taxes now being paid are small amounts and come from farmers who have been too busy dur- ing the harvesting season to come to the city and pay their share of the county’s and state’s expenses. All taxes being paid now are penalized for being delinquent, together with the interest since the time they were due. On land and lots the penalty is 7 per gone while on personal property, the sment is 12 per cent. New taxes, those for 1919, will be- come due December 1 and will un- doubtedly be the highest since North Dakota was admitted to statehood. A certain amount of the increase is due to the higher cost of practically every- thing, but the big majority of the in- crease is recognized as being caused by the Nonpartisan method® of govern- nent in the state. eras ic CITY NEWS LUCAS HUNTING DUCKS vor A.W, Lucas and a party of went on a hunting trip today and expect to return to the city ton with their bags loaded “down du and prairie hens.
