EIGHT. BRAKEMAN DIES FROM INJURIES REGEIVED TODAY Lower Part of Body Horribly Mangled and Death Comes in Hospital Here His body horribly mangled below the waist when he was run over by a freight train at Regan this morning, Andrew Swiggum of Jamestown, a Northern Pacific brakeman, died at a| local hospital a few hours later. Swiggum was helping to make up the train at Regan, coupling and un- coupling cars. In some manner he slipped and his body fell underneath the wheels of a moving freight car. Other members of the train crew, hearing his cries, rushed to where he had fallen, but too late to aid him. At Wilton, Dr. Theland boarded the train and gave what assistance he could to the injured man, stopping the flow of blood as much as possible. By the time the man reached Bis- marck, however, in spite of the speed of the train, he had lost considerable blood from his crushed legs. He was immediately placed on an operating table, but died shortly after entering the hospital. Swiggum, as far as could be learned here today, lives at Jamestown where he leaves 2 widow, He has been em- ployed by the Northern Pacific as brakeman for some time. The body is being held at the Webb Bros. un- dertaking parlors pending funeral ar- rangements at Jamestown.
