Lieutenant’ Who Saved Underseas Vessel San Francisco, Aug. 22.—(Corres- pondence of The Associated Press)— The heroism of the late Lieutenant Arnold ‘Marcus, of the United States navy, in navigating to safety the ex- plosion-torn submarine A-7 at Manila ia July, 1917, while he, himself, was|q suffering from fatal burns, was com- memorated here today in the launch- ing of the United States destroyer Marcus. The craft's sponsor was Mrs. Arnold Marcus, of San Francis-|§ co, widow of the young officer. Buyned and otherwise badly injured by an-explosion of gasoline vapor in|f the hold of the A-7, Lieutenant Mar- cus refused aid for himself until he had insured the safety of the crew and beached the:submarine, .
