Burleigh Poisoned Bran Gets Ducks Which Would + Have Eaten Hoppers Another “Vicious Cycle” That Boosts High Cost of Living Reported Today Bran doped with arsenic and spread in the fields to lure hoppers to a last fatal banquet has been gobbled up by thousands of ducks which would otherwise have fed on the hoppers, but which as a result of this diet will never feed again, report hunters from various sections of the state. They state that countless thousands of wild ducks have been attracted to hoppers, which is one of their favor- ite hors d’oeuvre. The hunting sea- son, they assert, would have been the best in the history of North Dakota, had not the ducks trifled with the poisoned repast. which had been spread for the hopper hordes. HONOLULU GASOLINE SUPPLY RUNNING LOW Honolulu, T. H., July 25—(By Mail) —Joy riding is under the ban in ‘Hon- olulu and there will be no more friv- olous motoring until ‘the middle of August, when the arrival of a tank steamer from California is expected to end the gasoline famine. The gascline supply here has be- come so'low that those dealers who still have some in their storage tanks are, selling only to those who require it for strictly business purposes. Multimillionaire sugar barons and dock workers are now seat partners in the street cars and the rickety old one horse cabs of King Kalaua’s reign have been resurrected for ser- vice. { ST.
