The secret of the whole thing is in getting started. It only takes a dollar to start a savings account, After that it is a matter of stopping at the bank before you even open your pay envelope. Since girls have gone in for profes- sional careers they sem to want to; outrival their brothers in the novelty of their professions. Women doctors,} lawyers, carpenters, engineers, etc., have been professions quickly adpot- ed. Now, a girl not bigger.than a “will- o’-the-wisp” and who would faint dead} away if jokingly placed upon a docile horse has taken up the art of teach-; ing wild elephants to trumpet. She} will fearlessly grasp the coarse leat 1- er trunk of one of these great beasts| and in a.short time will have it trumpeting at. command. Mamie Thornton is the girl in question and is a California girl. Three years ago she took up ele- phant training with Al G. Barnes wild animal circus, the show that op- ens here this afternoon and evening. She has gone in for all the inner knowledge and -queer -experiences that come to one in this work.
