WILSON eae * Enters Vigorous Disclaimer to Charge That Yankees Wor- ship Almighty Dollar | INTERPRETS PEOPLE’S WILL Paris (Saturday), May 10.—Presi- dent Wilson in his address today to the French academy of moral and po- litical sciences, entered a strong dis- claimer of the idea that the Americans were largely materiatists or dollar! workers, “I have had in recent months one very deep‘ sense of privilege,” the president said. “I have been keenly aware that there have been times when the people of Europe have not understood the peoples of the United States.” We have too often been sup- posed to be devoted chiefly to ma- terial enterprises. We have been sup- poged in the common phrase to wor- ship the almighty dollar.
