GOVERNOR STILL HAS NOT KEPT today from the Independent Voters’ as- sociation headquarters: fect that he will call a special ele tion on any measure for wh promises that were made by the part that put him in power.at the last eral election. out to the people that the present 1 lature would prepare law ‘so-called league platform, ‘them to the people for ratification cr {tion from now on, for some time stejeetion. firs SERVICE—That’s our middle name. Lahr Motor Sales Company = DISTRIBUTORS OF OVERLAND CARS ‘ederal Tires—Vesta Batteries and Western Electric Power and Light Plants BISMARCK ‘DATLY ‘TRIBUNE * If you are offered “something off” the chances are 100 to one that you are getting “something on.” | Rest assured that the price you are paying amply covers what you think you are getting for nothing. You can also be ninety-nine per cent sure that somebody else is:getting more “off” than you are. Any concession at all is evidence ef weakness. It is'evidence that the bars are down so why stcp at a small concession; why not get the limit? Somebody else will get it, why not you? If a dealer is handling*an automobile that is honestly built and listed at an honest price, the discount he gets fromthe maker 1s no more than suf- ficient to allow him the legitimate margin of profit to which he is entitled and to enable him to render to the purchaser the service which any automo- bile owner needs. : The automobile dealer who gets no more than the legitimate discount cannot afford to divide it with the customer and stay in business. An automobile dealer is in business for the same purpose that other people are—to make money. He will either. make money or he will have to go out of business. > To be able to remain in business, he must selt’his cars at a profit... Lf he is not going to remain in business his car would be a poor investment at any price. The cut ‘price dealer is not infrequently a feflection of the concern * whose car he sells. He usually has but a small inyestment, if any. He sel- dom has an organization worthy the name. He has no reputation to main- tain, neither does he expect to build one. He sells the cars for as much above cost as possible, two hundred dcllars profit or more, if he can get it, twenty-five dollars or less if he has to take it.- His motto is, “Make hay while the sun shines.” . After the car is sold, his interest in the customer ceases. The buyer must get along as best he can. No assistance, no service, just shift for himself and. make the best of it. 5 The time was when there may have been some excuse for one’s mak- ing a mistake in buying a motor car. But that time is past. There is no excuse for going wrong now. : All you have to do is to make a common sense investigation and post yourself concerning the various cars, the same as you would post yourself cn any other business proposition, and not go at it with your eyes shut. You can learn of the successes. 45 “4? ° Automobiles At Cut Prices Sounds Inviting ,Doesn’t Jt? But Is There Any Such Thing In Reality? You can learn of the failures. 3 bs . You can learn of those who have-no. reputation and never expect to earn one. 4 You can learn of the cars which are always in service. : You can learn of those which are much of the time in the repair shop. » You can learn of the cars which are-a source of constant comfort and enjoyment. * You can learn of those which are a source of constant annoyance and expense. : You can learn of the dealers who have made a legitimate business of the sale of motor cars and expect to continue in it. . You can léarn of those who are “here today, and gone tomorrow.” You can learn of the dealers: who do business on business principles. - You can learn of those whose sole object is to'trade automobiles for dollars, and the transaction ends with the exchange. f Ycu can learn of the dealers who carry stocks of supplies, who are. : ready to take care of your slightest wants. You can learn of those who must send to the fa¢tory for everything needed, while you—you wait, and usually continue to wait. 2 You can learn of the dealers. who have organizations capable of ren- dering any service you may need. ik moe can learn of those to whom it is useless to look for service of any Kind, i You can learn of the dealers who handle the same line cf cars year after year. we 7 You can learn of those who seldom handle one line two years in succes- , sion. You had better write to the factory.” : You can learn by investigation the things it will pay you to know and which will save you money and contribute to your mgtor car, satisfaction arid content. ener ape er Or, you can go at it blindly, pay out yor aorey and live in regrets.
