(1) An open break between the Am- erican and National leagues, which would result in the dissolution of the National Conimission, the converting of the.18-year-old agreement between the two leagues into a scrap of paper and the abolition of the world series. ((2), Mutual. concessions on the part of both Mack and the Boston club, ‘by ,which the’ matter would be amic- ably. ‘settled, One thing is certain. Mack will not give up Scott Perry. Perry was bought by the Boston club from Atlanta last year Boston agreed to pay Atlanta $500 for the right to give Perry a 30-day trial and $2,000 if he was retained longer. Af- ter 17, days Perry was returned to Atlanta. Perry did not pitch for Bos- ton and the Atlanta club had to ap- ply to the National Commission to get its $500. Mack declares that the National Commission, in. August, 1917, ruled that Boston ‘had. no claims on the player. In: March, 1918, Atfanta sold Perry.to, the. Athletics. It was not until Perry had gone through the training season and had pitched three winning championship games that Manager Stallings claim- ed. him. Mack's contention is that if Stall- ings bad.a just claim on Perry's serv- ices and really wanted him, he should have filed his claim before the season opened. “Stallings sat in the grand ‘stand in an exhibition game at Jacksonville and watched Perry pitch for us:in March,” Mack told me. ‘He knew J had Perry, but made. no claim on’ him..
