N. Dickson's court Tuesday told of riot- ing as they saw it downtown in St. Paul, Sunday, December 2, at the time of the street car labor troubles, the testimony being presented by the state in its case against J. C. Mana- han, a St. Paul attorney charged with rioting. Godfrey Sorenson, a motorman, fold of a crowd of would-be rioters taking fright at a snuff box. “In my cab I had been dodging rocks and finally I thought it was about time fo take a pinch of snuff,” he trans- forred, “I reached in my pocket and took out the box. The cover was shiny ‘and the fellows in the crowd outside saw it. They yelled and ran away.” Testimony of witnesses shows that the rioting occurred at about 4:30 p. m., December 2 and the defense may attempt to show that Manahan being the last of four speakers at the Rice Park Mass meeting, which began be- fore the rioting started, did not speak until after 5 p.m. The case will be continued at 10 a. m. tomorrow.
