Schwalen, president and cash- fer of the Triumph State bank at, Triumph, Minn., was arrested today, on charges of interfering with the sale | of liberty bonds. The arrest took place after Chairman Wade of the | local committee reported to Sheriff Carver that when the committee ask- ed Schwalen what his bank was going to do about the bonds, that the bank- er replied nothing. According to Mr. Wade the sale of bonds in townships about Triumph has been slow and some influence, he be- lieved, was against it. ~ OFFICER HELD ON ARSON CHARGE Fargo, N. D., Oct. 24.—W. E. Alden, United States naval recruiting offi- cer, arrested here late yesterday on a warrant sworn out by United States District Attorney Hildreth charging him with arson in connection with the fire at the local postoffice recent- ly, was to have a hearing at 2 o'clock this afternoon before United States Commissioner A. W. Cupler. When arraigned late last night Al- den pleaded not guilty and asked for an immediate hearing. At today's hearing it is expected the govern- ment will lay before the commission the evidence in the case, which hag heretofore been kept secret. Alden denies all connection in the case, and says that the starting of the fire is all a mystery to him.
