Improving School Building—The North Ward school house is being repaired in various places prepara- tory to the re-opening of school in the fall. The porches are being fix- ed up and the building will not only able for both-teachers and students. Library Building—The public li- brary, which is being erected near the city hall on Thayer street is as- suming proportions which give evi- dence that Bismarck people are to enjoy the comforts of a good institu- tion. It will add considerable to the appearance of the city, and work is being rushed. From Minnesota—C. F. Butterfield, Sr., of Albert Lea, Minn., has been spending a few days in the city on business and pleasure combined. He is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Thistlethwaite, of 102 Avenue B. Mr. Butterfield is over 70 years old, but jis still an active traveling salesman, |and is a booster for North Dakota. Bull of the Rockefeller Institute for Medical} Research has announced a discovery which will probably save the lives of thousands of soldiers during the war. Hornaday. The defend- ant wasn’t in court when the charge was brought, being detained in the Bronx. The defendant’s name was Cartoon, but the complaints’ against him were anything but funny. He was‘charged with being nasty and not letting his keepers enter his cage and acting in a perfectly ungentlemanly fashion.
