Again Resorting To Liquid Fire British Headquarters in France, via London. (From a Staff Correspond- ent of the Associated Press.)—While there is no general battle in progress, intensely bitter fighting has flared up along the British line in the vicinity of Lens, almost to the south of St. Quentin. Much of this is due to the desper- ate attempts of the Germans to re- take some of their old positions. They still are hurling fresh reinforcements by day and by night into the conflict, which ever is becoming more san- guinary. The Germans are resorting again to the use of liquid fire, but even that barbaric weapon has now failed. War to the Finish. “The war which has been forced upon us and for which we are in no way responsible must be brought to a successful termination in such a manner that the integrity and nation- al honor of Russia shall be main- tained,” said President Rodzianko. “The innumerable sacrifices we have laid upon the altar of this war demand that the peace should corre- spond with the immensity of our ef- forts, and that the aim for which we are struggling, the trials and ideals of justice and liberty be assured us. “The struggle for principles so mu- tually contradictory cannot terminate in a draw, but only in a decisive vic- tory for. one or the other of the ad- versaries. Only defeat of the German militarism can result in happiness. “Peace in the present condition would only be an armistice of lesser or greater duration. ‘Do not forget that the working classes of Germany however socialistic, ardently desire victory for Germany, and her defeat by the Allies would be like the blow of a club for the workers of Ger- many, who naturally support the im- perialistic aspirations of their gov- ernment.” Order now Taylor & Co. canned fruits through St. George's Guild.
