Hettinger, N. D., April 4.—Human bones which crumbled to ashes when touched were found.on the Josepr McGrath homestead, two miles south- west of Haynes yesterday, and reveal- ed that the lone homesteader perish- ed in the flames which destroyed his Sunday. ‘mers living within a close dis- tance stated they saw flames near the McGrath farm, ‘but thought it was a j burning stra-stack. McGrath was about 50 years old. Whether he had gone to the cellar for valuable papers kept there or was overcome by smoke while he slept, is not known. CONTRACTS LET. The state board of regents Monday awarded the Grand Forks Mercantile company the contract for the 25-cent coffee to be used at educational insti tion boarding houses, and gave,Chase & Sanborn of -Chicago- the*contract for 21-cent: coffee. A statutory meeting: of the state board of regents will be held ‘April 16 at the state university; April 17 at the state school of forestry at Bot- tineau, and April 19 at the agricul- tural college in Fargo. | Institution heads have been notified; ‘and’ they will attend the session which~ they find best suits their convenience, GOES TO FARGO. President Lewis F. Crawford of the state board of regents passed through the city today, en route to Fargo, to attend a meeting of the state bdarc of farmers’ institutes, of which he is io member. The state insurance commission has granted the Bankers’ Insurance Co. of Helena, Mont., permission to write hail, tornado, cyclone and windstorm damage to growing crops in North Dakota. J. C.
