KEEP MY SLEEVES “Hop”’ . WHITMAN IS DETERMINED T0 SUPPRESS BOXING Wenck’'s Experience and Other Things Have Soured New York Executive FRAWLEY BILL DOOMED; o THERE'S LITTLE WONDER | and Managers As Much to Blame As the Ring Principals By H, Cc, HAMILTON (United Press Staff Correspondent.) Promoters New York, March Governor Whitman of New York is determined that before the close of this year hov- ing will be kicked completely out of New York. His dete:mination, he de- -clared in recent informal discussions, is unalterable. He is opposed to the fame from every angle. Governor Is Soured The unfavorable publicity the game has received in this city, the unfavor- bouts that have ‘om time to time, Fred Wenck's unfortunate experience with the hot:end of the $100 check and several other things, have soured Whitman completely. Wenck’'s conduct in office was very bad and it was the straw that broke the governor’s back. He announced that Wenck wold ‘bo removed from office and then let it be known in am unofficial way that no one would be appointed to replace the deposed chairman of the boxing commission. Many. Things Looked Bad 3 Wenck did several things while in office that. looked ‘bad, among them being hi at of borrowing $400 from the manager of a fighter, no small stunt, He repaid the money by Frank- lin B. Lord, the governor's represent- ative who heard the evidence in charges ‘brought by Harry Pollok, John White and others, held that Wenck acted in disrespect to the dig- y of his office in asking for a loan. As if this were not enough, Wenk permitted his office to be used on mor sion as headquarters for of koxers who were ew York ring: do that, but he even re- ‘a hustling young manag- visiting man: to appar in only did } er of a fight club” to a former man- ager of Fred Fulton, who asked re- garding the stability of clubs. He also indorsed a note for $2,500 to help this manager stage a match, To End Game for All Time These things were ‘bad, they nettled the governor, and he was determined to end the game for all time when the evidence was all in, ‘Nothing can stop it in New York. The Frawley iM is doomed and there is little swonder. The way promoters and Managers, not to speak of the boxers, have treated their liberties is enough ‘to shame anything into hiding. And in passing, it is enough to -pro- voke a giggle to witness the fact that in getting revenge on Wenck, for efusing a license to conduct bouts Madison Square Garden, Harry Pollock gave a perfect impersona- tion of the man who cut off his nose to spite his face, TO THE VOTERS OF BISMARCK _ Being a candidate for member of the city commission at the coming election, I desire to state that my plaform, “Public Improvements with- SPRING SUITINGS AND OVERCOATINGS In the Latest Patterns Fit and Workmanship Guaranteed H. I favor paving in the business dis- trict, and am willing to contribute; my are towards the cost of same, believing it a substantial benefit to the property and city, as well as gi ing employment to many of our citi- zens. . I also favor paving the streets in the resident district, where the major- ity of the property owners desire the ; but think some of the outlying and the streets on which the majority of the owners have protest- ed against paving should be cut out. If, however, the supreme court up- holds the present contract, I shall ¢ deavor to have the paving done in a first class manner and insthe best in- terest of the property owners, I believe the growth and needs of the city now justify the purchase of modern automobile fire equipment, to cost not more than $6,000.00 so the resident portions of the city may re- ceive better fire protection. This. should reduce insurance and I believe we can bond for this sum and the money obtained from the state at four percent interest. As to streets and sidewalks, IT most certainly will insist upon keeping them in good passable condition at all seasons of the year. If elected, I pledge fair treatment to all citiz regardless of their so- cial or financial cond A.C.
