Emery and G. E. Martin, privates, both of Fargo. It is the first step in the na- tional movement to the total enlist- ment of the United States army up to 250,000 in accordance with the army re-organization law which went into effect November 1. The efforts to secure recruits are being made from coast to coast under the direct control of the war depart- ment at Washington. Formerly North and South Dakota were included with Minnesota, but the department has re- arranged the districts, making the two Dakotas one district. But three re- cruiting stations will. be located in the state, according to Private Emery. These are at Minot, Devils Lake and Bismarck. According to fhe new jaw, the men will. be drafted for the, United States army. and will not be connected with units. now doing service on the border or state militia. Men will be received for two distinct plans—one for one | year of active service and.six years of reserve duty while the other will be for three years of active service and four years of reserve duty.” Hhe pay for ‘the mem.is placed at $2 per-month, but if they are called into active service the. pay. willbe $5 permonth for the entire term of reserve duty.
