< L il.lllllflllliilHlllliillllllllIIIIIIIIIUll!fllIlflllilfllflll!lllllllfiIil_lllllllllllllllfllllIIIIIIIIIHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIHIIIIII (By A. P. Ritchie) Postmaster, City of Bemidji Your mail and your neighpors mail is delayed if you have no mail receptacle at your door with your name plainly written thereon To eliminate unnecessary delay, the Post Gffice Depjartment has ruled that carrier service will not be ex- tended to any new " building not cquipped with suitable receptacles, and that when a patron changes his residence he will be required to .pro- vide a mail box at his new address before being accorded delivery serv. ice. All patrons 11 be 'expected | to have a proper ail receptacle, pre- ferably 'a slot in the. door betore Jan. 1, 1923.° The failure to provide a mailire- ceptacle not only tends to incon- venience the patron himself, but is an unnecessary hardship on the car- rier. If the carrier has to wait at @_door, even if only two or three K mmutes, and has to do it several times in a block, it means that he has to work much harder to complete his deliveries. If the people under- stood this, -for the, carrier’s sake, if for no other reason, they would pro- vide a box. .EDGEWOOD Miss Dorothy and Mr. Roger nght who are making their. home in Bemidji spent Sunday with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. F, J. Mr. Higbie was ahnut 68 years old and one of the pioneers in Maple Ridge township, his 80-acre farm adjoining the Wil- liam McClellan homestead. Mr. Hig- bie resided here a number of years, was regarded by the folks around as a perfect neighbor, naturally having made some very firm friends here. As a school teather, he did much for the younger generat.lon and was al- ways interested in educational mat- ters, expressing himself as highly pleased over the consolidation and the improvements of our school dis- tricts here. He leaves two sons to whom we extend our sympathy. Mrs. A. M, Ripple was hostess to the Ladies Helping Hand society at her Home on Thursday of last week when about 18 of the members gath- ered to make Christmas toys for the primary school room and the smaller children. About 36 stuffed geese and some little ‘pal dolls, bear, rab- bits, balls, etc., are being made. Mrs. Ripple, with Mrs. Stephan to as- sist, will take care of the Christmas candies, apple, nuts, etc. There ar to be popcorn balls and a number of other things for the tree which will be on Friday evening before Christ- mas at the school house with a pro- gram of entert;nmment by the -school Everyone will be cordially welcome. We hope that not only all the people in the community will attend, but also all others who wish to attend we extend a hearty invitation. The next regular meeting will be in Jan- uary, the second Wednesday- Mrs. Myrtle Wordon was rein- stated as a memher of ithe society she having recently. moved back to her home here.
