When he arrived home his eye was sWwollen and very sore. The néxt morning he was obliged to go to the doctor, who extracted the head of a pin from the man’s eye. Several years after, this man's wife cut up the coat he had been wearing when he got the pin in his eye, when out dropped 2 pin minus the head. The only solution is that the tailor had forgotten to re- move the pin while making the coat and had cut the head off with his shears. When the man gave a quick jerk to brush away the files the head must haye worked through the cloth and was thrown into his eye. The pin was In the left sleeve and the man was left handed. —e Time to Obey. Several children were playing in our back yard, among them a small lad by the ntune of Bobby. Marcum Physician and Surgeon BARKER BUILDING Hourst 11-12 a. m.—3-5 p. m. Phones—Office 802, Res., 211 Dr. Keramopoullos, ephor of antiqui- ties, has been continuing his research- es in the so-called House of Cadmus at Thebes, says an Athens disputch. It i8 now clear that this house or palace represents two perlods. To the early period, dating from about 1600 B. C. to 1400 B. C., belong the frug- ments of fine fresco wall paintings found some years ago with a frieze of fa-hionably-dressed ~ damsels, some holding flowers, some vases and some small ivory boxes. To the Iater period, roughly from 1400 B. C. to 1100 B. C., belong the ruined chambers which have been excavated. In some of the small store chambers which have thus far been clenred, Doctor KergmopouHos has found a large number of stirrup vases. A set of about thirty of these, mostly broken, but not irreparably, bear inscriptions 1n the mainland form of the prehistorie “Minoan” script first discovered by Sir Arthur Evans at Cnossos. Some of these Inscriptions consist of four characters only, some of ten or twelve. They are symmetrically placed with due relation to the decoration of the vases. In view of the legend that Cadmus introduced the alphabet into Greece, it s extremely interesting to find what one may perhaps call the Cadmean script in use at Thebes In so early a period. These new Theban inscrip- tions are similar in character to those previously known from Orchomenos, Tiryns and Mycenae, and unlike the Cretan. script from which, however, they ate:derived. It appears possible that the difference of script Indicates a difference of language between Crefe and the Greek mainland -at the time in which these ‘Theban inscriptiens were written. N " DRs.
