OFFICIAL COUNTY AND OITY FPROCEEDINGS ‘WONDER ON WONDERS' Tt §8 ‘quite uncanny enough to have the price of hogs come to you from out the sky, but:it seems that the half hasn’t been told about this wirelesa business yet. For instance, along ¢comes thé announcement from Washington that C. Francis Jenkins, who has been at work ‘on the idea for 20 years, has per- fected an invention by means of which: Motion pictures may be transmitted by wireless from a central broadeasting station into the homes of the people, or h: happenings on the other side of the earth may be flashed into newspaper offices, criminals may be exhibited in one central station and their likeness shown to the police in every city, town and hamlet in the world instantaneous- ly. How would you like to try that on your wire- jJess? Yet, when explained in detail, it sounds yeasonable enough. Prismatic rings furnish the secret of the ability to transfer pictures through the air, That this could be done has long been known ,but always there has been a defect, The Jenkins invention clears away this- defect. :+ There is a light detecting box which takes the picture through a lens in front of the prismatic ‘rings and, as the light ruynlplsa through it, sends them out through the air just as the voice is) sent out by the carbon transmitter. On the receiving end there is an ordinary telegraph instrumentto ! \ vibrate and a mirror sends the light on through a “light valve” which is nothing more than a glass tube filled with carbide bisulphide and bound with wire much after the manner of a tuning coil now in use in wireless. So we are not only to it in the rocking chair and hear Galli Curci, but we are to see Mary Pickford and her curls. Sir Arthur says we shall soon: be talking with the spirits by means of the wireless,. Who. is there to doubt him?'’'’ o ee——§ , RETURN JUDGE STANTON Judge €. W. Stanton, Bemidji’s popular jurist, has filed for re-election to-the bench from this.dis- . trict. The judge is considered one of the ablest -’ jurists in the state and should be returned without opposition. He has been often considered by the Democratic party ‘as being the best qualifiéd timber for the office of governor, and would doubtless occupy this position today if Minnesota were a Democratic state. Judge Stanton likes the work in which he is en- gaged and conducts his office in a fearless and capable manner, and there is every indication that he will be strongly endorsed by the people of this district. 3 §- $ A Bemidji woman put the “I Hear You Calling Me” record on the:phonograph and when it had finished her absent:minded husband remarked, “I must get after those fish.” $ | I They used to say: “If you want a thing well done, ‘do it “yourself.” In Beltrami county they are changing. it to: “If you want anything done, let Gene Berman do it.” § The former kaiser’is whining because his in- come is only $120,000 a year. If that old bird only knew it, he’s in luck to be alive. That Colorado woman who was named fire chief will disappoint a lot of people if she doesn’t equip the department with silk hose. § § Oh yes, by the way, the attendance record wasn’t the only thing that was smashed at Tenstrike. That picric acid has a picnic with stumps. —t Medical men have discovered that red rouge on the lips is highly injurious. This will be a terrible blow to the movie stars. v $ § Attorney General Daugherty is accused of ask- ing $25,000 for getting Morse out of the coop. He got out, didn’t he? “ "y by §———! Now comes June, month of brides, bugs, bills and bathing beauties—to say nothing of Birch- mont. $ ] Judge Stanton has decided to run again. That’s another decision that will be upheld.
