They mend nutmegs, that is to say, they fill up the holes in worm-eaten and damaged nutmegs from spice warehouses. This work is done at home, thé worm holes being filled with a mixture of nutmeg dust and gum made into a paste, and the poor women for doing this are paid at the rate of 4 cents per gross of nutmegs.
