OFFICIAL COUNTY AND OITY FROCEEDINGS - PIE HUNTERS OF RAMSEY 8t. Paul has a lot of splendid Reptblicans who put @ high value on real service, and whose first consideration is the best interests of the state and S nation. i There are also a 1ot of political ple-hunting pikers down in St. Paul, end these latter control * the organization of the party. They are of the breed that would trade off the b peace of the world for some petty job with a nhry g attachment. | They are of the narrow vision who cannot see beyond their own ward limits. They have no comprehension that an office like that of United States senator belongs to the whole state and not to any minor portion. Hestroy the most efficient servant of the common- wealth for a politu.nl appointment. Neither do they have the sense to know that their opposition js the highest compliment they are capable of pay- ing to a faithful and patriotic official. By sharp practice they secured control of the county convention, and endorsed a man for sena- tor of the hand-shaking kind, and who does not hesitate to neglect the duties of a position which he holds in his chase for an office several sizes be- yond his sbility. The idiotic insult to the rest of the state, was'a message to.Senator Frank Kellogg, asking him to decline to be a candidate for a second term be- cause he had not been endorsed by them! people of Minnesota by a tremendous majority love Frank Kellogg the better because he is not i in sym- pathy with your kind? When the delegates to the Republican state con- vention assemble in St. Paul on March 31, the dele- gates from Ramsey county will discover that they are just a wart on the G. O. P. of Minnesota. As was once said of a president of the United States: “We love him for the encmies he has made.” So will the opposition of the Ramsey coun- They have no state patriotism and they would -~ Oh, you foolish ones! Don’t you know that the tion we have for Franik Kellogg, because it marks ‘him as’a man whq s not truckling to the pne-hunb ing-element, ‘sut rises to the heighth of a ‘great ‘statesman, #ho is attending to his duties in Wash- i ington—feaving the selection of candidates to the Repubitican men and women. + 1'is this same stripe of St. Paul Republicans who mufide a fight years ago on Senator Cushman K. . Davis, one: of‘the most able and brilllant men: ever elected to the scnate from any state—and Minges sota was only_saved from, the disgrace of a great .political scandal’ by ‘the ;\ppreunhve Rtynbltcans*‘ from the state at large. ., With the ward pomxciins in con&ol of affairs” in Ramsey county, it’is no wonder it sends to ¢on- gress Democrats and ‘Nonpartisans:—~¥t Is not good s0il for a genuine. Ba_publican who has some vision bove hmding out political pie. —Journal Press. s 2 Political interest is now centered in the coming kepubllcnn congressional ., conventions scheduléd for:March 31. Those o!,upeclll interest will be 4n the Third, Seventh and Ninth districts. That R. J. Thoreen of Washington county is whittling down the lead of R. C. Davis is indicated in late county convention reports, and the same is the case with Theodore Christianson of Dawgon who is inc after A. J. Volstead in the Seventh district. In-the Ninth district, where Ole Sageng is a con- gressional candidate, Halvor- Steenerson, the pres- ent Republican incumbent has the best of the argu- ment. —1 HOW ABOUT A CITY DOCK? How about a city dock or municipal pier at the foot of Third street? We are just wondering what one of the Range towns would erect, had they such a beautiful body of water in their front yard. Every year we are reminded that Bemidji ought to have a municipal pier for the convenience of boats. Bemidji is to have a regular boat service on the lake this year, making regular trips to' all sum- mer resort points on the lake. Some attention should be given to the proper handling of patrons. 5 The name of Julius Schmahl still continues a live topic in state poiitical circles. It is'said that he is going to file for some state office following the state convention. George Magnuson of St. Cloud has announced his candidacy for state auditor. He will not go into the convention. Magnuson is said to be sore on the present Republican state admin- istration. §—+ The public has forgotten -about the milk that Henry Ford was to artificially produce and good old Bossie continues to chew her cud-as contentedly as-a bob-haired stenognpw Point your finger at the man who cuts across lawns and boulevards. If he has a single -drop of civic pride blood, he’ll turn ’em square. § § The statement that women.will rule the world in' 1977 was an error. It should have read: “women will continue to rule in:1977.” § § 1t takes very little encouragement sometimes in order to have a fellow make a “jackass” of him- self. Now somebody will wonder “if this means me.” §———1% Well, we naticed one woman, who has been in the habit of cutting corners more or less, turn ’em square this morning. 3:15 o'clock.
