B LT “RVER SINCE EVE" AT THE REX THEATER TODAY Shirley Mason, as usual, captured ‘her audience at the opening perforni- ance yesterday at the Rex theater of the photoplay, “Ever Since Eve,” a Fox production made from Joseph Ernest Peat's story, “Concerning . Chichine.” Ample evidence was forth- coming that the spectators ' were mightily pleaswd, not only with the duinty dtar's work, but with the com- puny as a whole and the work of the author and the producer. In “Rver, Since Eve,” it-is safe to say, Miss Mason is seen at her yery hest—which is very good indeed. Por- traying the ‘tentral character in a story of an arphhan_ girl adopted by a1 artist she never has met, the de~ velopment of the romance has in it not one dull moment; and the interest is enhanced by an element of mystery attaching to ome of the pmminent .figures. The love theme is devmly \vorked out, and the final climax is in the nature of a surprise, The serious action is threaded by good comedy, and the cntertainment as & whole is of a high class. Howard ‘M. Mitchell did his cus- tomaery excellent work as director of the plcturc “A WESTERN DEMON” AT THE REX THEATER FRIDAY Qut of the depths, of New York's slums and mto the great open West, where. men’s hearts beat true as ste¢L, one day arrived out of a side- door Pullman one of its rarest prod- ucts. To use his own language, “he put on a nose-bag,” meaning he had isomething to eat, and approached a cattleman and asked for work. He was at once engaged as cook on the B. B. ranch; the foreman of which was Joe Dalton, the clever scoundrel in “A Western Demon.” The cook was none other than Billy' Franey himself, .the: man who was born to make the world laugh, and when you see him making one of his many trips to the “old crow’s nest,” as he does in this production, we are sure you will_agree with us. Mr. Franey is known the world over as a comedian who has been a star in his own com- edies for the past six years, and at greéat expense he was secured to play the comcdv part in “A Western De- mo. TOM MIX IN “TRAILIN'," AT .- THE 'REX CHRISTMAS DAY Tom Mix, the William Fox who recently paid New York a fly ng visit, astonished his interviewers when they askéd him how liked the metropolis. Mr. Mix had been shown every wonder ‘and mouth-opener which the , big question was put to him, he did not’saya word—just pulled out his time table und looked up the next train back home to California. It wasn’t because the famous dare devil actor didn’t marvel at the city'’s greatness; it was «implv because hu foved the West with its wonderful sunsets and its roving herds of 'cat- tle.
