OFFICIAL COUNTY AND CITY PROCEEDINGS W FIGURING THE COST OF HATE Man’s greatest enemy is hate. It is at the bottom of all| his principal troubles. It spares no clime or people or creed, and has ever been the chief obstacle in the pathway of prog- ress. Human nature being what it is, perhaps it is impossible to remove human hatreds altogether. But if public or individuals realized what they pay in money, blood, life and happiness to appease hate, maybe they would cultivate the more tolerant and broader thought. | Beltrami county, in Northern Minnesota, is now trying to| figure out what a spark of hatred between two of its citizens has burned up for its citizens in time and money and progress. The facts should be interesting, because Beltrami county and its slice of human nature are as good and as bad, as progressive and as indifferent, as any county or people, BEMIDJI DAILY PIONEER |7+ sazsiases+" * PARK RAPIDS * |Kililifl¥11¥fiiiii The Fair managers had a hard time |last week. as a consequence the attendance was |very light. |best to hold the show over Sunday land as & result had a grand day and Eatered st the postoffice at Bemidjl, Minnesota, sa second-class mattes, |Iiile £00d fo the P ever had and as a fair was a grest success. %4 Mr. Smyth, ‘who h;_is been ill for tions for the Weekly Pioneer must reach this office not later than Tuesday | ]";fize g:.':']:e': 3:;2}:; ",,‘";ifi;}‘,fie“s‘::;i: |day night which will at -least con- %IlIIllllIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!IIIlilfllfil]illlllllllll days. Fists and revolvers were resorted to. The results so far A of their hate are these: Archie Fenton, an innocent bystander, was killed, leaving a wife and child with no means of support. Ole Hanson, another innocent bystander, was bru- tally beaten and spent a week in the hospital. Robert Miller is serving a life term at Stillwater, leaving his wife and five children destitute. George Miller, his brother, had to undergo a gruelling trial for murder, which cost him and the county and state much time and money. Ellis Bowman and his wife are out on bonds, awaiting trial for assault. Every taxpayer of the county has contributed to the court expenses of thousands of dollars, so that Miller and Bowman could sing their hynins of hate. Beltrami county, it would seem, has paid a terrible price, because of the passions of just two individuals. But that price is a small matter compared to what some other counties and states and nations and peoples, the world over, are paying for the narrow-minded and prejudical actions of one or more in- dividuals. . Only as man comes more to apply principles of Christian- ity, can he convert his human naturd into humane nature.— Minneapolis Journal. -~ WHILE THEY LAST ~~ $1.25 Hot Water Bottle and Fountain Syringe at 8lc ' -5 T [ T I T = o | FISK AND MILLER TIRES FREE AIR VULCANIZING - - City Tire and Repair Co. || A GENERAL AUTOMOBILE REPAIRING AND AUTOMOTIVE SUPPLIES We repair all Starting, Light- ing and Ignition Systems. “SATISFACTION GUARANTEED” MOTOR SALES & SERVICE CO.
