OFFICIAL COUNTY AND CITY PROCEEDINGS i = | hel VISIT YOUR NEIGHBORS | Wi The expressions of surprise heard on all sides from some;}“ of the Bemidji folks who made the trip with the Real Estate Dealers to the Blackduck and Kelliher country, at the clevelop-_ p. ment seen there, makes one wonder how much .the people of! the southern part of the county know about their neighbors a/ little further north. 1 citizens , when they go on their little pleasure jaunts around the county, ever leave the main traveled highways, and there-i fore seldom see the development going on about them: A's a rule, the development does not show up as well on the main high-|pa ways as on the sideroads, consequently, we do not see mu it while traveling on the main roads. Iz Wouldn’t it be a mighty good plan for many of our Be-| midji folks to get off the state highways a little distance and get ;‘l acquainted with some of their neighbors when th<e_v make their 0 evening or afternoon jaunts into the country? It isn’t necessary m. to go for supper, nor dinner either, although you would very"ll likely be welcome, but these people would be‘ glad to know|? someone is interested in the work they are doing. You may| have to drive a little slower on the side roads—so much the bet-| ter, you will see more as you go, and you will feel good after‘\ having made the acquaintance of some people you didn’t know :1)11 before. You might like them, . | Pei Our county is large and it is impossible to get acquainted with every person in it. It might change the minds of some of us in the south end to get a bird’s-eye view of what is going on in the rest of the county. We have all visited the park spots and the berry patches—now let us visit our friends a few miles| out in the country, and do it before the snow flies. It won’t be so easy then. ORI CUT IN FEDERAL ROAD APPROPRIATION An amendment to the Federal Good Roads bill reducing the allotment of federal funds for Minnesota road building py $710,000 is reported through the senate. The total appropria- tion has been cut from $100,000,000 to $75,000,000 for, the en- tire country, which means a reduction in every state of 25.per cent ¢f it original allotment, Minnesota was to have received $2,840,000 and will now receive $2,130,000, one-third of which will become available immediately under the bill. ng. SR D g KEEP THEM IN SCHOOL TILL THEY DO THEIR WORK Congress puts a person in mind of a boy cramming before examination. It haggles and argués for weeks over something or nothing and then suddenly discovers, when the time comes to recess, it still has all its work ahead of it and the jamming begins. Usually the matters that should have been argued are either left out in the cold entirely or jammed through without any investigation whatever. We hope the president “makes it clean up some of the work, he wants done before he “lets out” for recess. 1t will be some job, though.
